Support for the Green Cause by Dignitaries, New Delhi

Dr. R K Pachauri
Director General - TERI &
Chairman, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - UNEP

“April 22, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day celebrations held in 1970. The vision with which Senator Gaylord Nelson launched this event now seems even more relevant than it did at that time. The world seems to have intensified its efforts to degrade and destroy the ecosystems of this planet. For instance, between 1970 and 2004 the emissions of greenhouse gases increased by 70% creating conditions by which global climate change will create even more serious impacts than were projected earlier.

Earth Day 2010 gives us a unique opportunity to turn around the unsustainable pattern of development that we have pursued ever since industrialization began. I hope we in India use this occasion to move on a path that would create an example for other nations and societies to follow.

I wholeheartedly support the awareness programme on climate change, and I hope this would prove to be a unique occasion when Indians resolve to adopt a programme of action for adaptation and mitigation to meet the challenge of climate change effectively”.

Mr. Syed Badruddin

National President, Indo- American Chamber of Commerce

Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) is extremely happy to get associated with the awareness program on Climate Change and water conservation for Delhi schools jointly by the Climate Project –India and Paharpur Business Center to coincide with Earth Day on 22nd April 2010.

Climate Change is the most challenging issue of the present century. Happily, there is a growing global awareness about the sinister impact of the climate change and the critical need for adopting greener and cleaner technologies and concepts to build healthier habitats. Now, we have the concept of Green Leaders, who can spearhead the progress of the mankind in an environmental-friendly and sustainable basis.

Indian environment landscape is fast undergoing positive changes. Creditably, we have emerged as a nation, which strongly advocates fast-tracking climate issues in the global growth agenda. Our political leadership has rolled out a well-crafted roadmap for integrating green initiatives in the development programs at the macro and micro levels.

Admittedly, Green initiatives have to encompass every aspect of our living and every citizen has to be a player and a stakeholder. Green ideas have to germinate in the young minds. It is the bounden duty of the enlightened minds to inculcate such values among the genre of citizenship. In this regard, I greatly value and appreciate the commendable efforts of the Climate Project India steered by Nobel Laureate Al Gore and its Chairman Dr. R.K. Pachuri and Paharpur Business Centre, an organization, which has always be in the forefront of implementing social outreach programs. The common link between these two organizations is Mr. Kamal Meattle, who is a trustee of The Climate Project-India and CEO of Paharpur Business Centre. I am sure under his visionary leadership; this project will achieve its goal.

It augurs well that Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi is launching the awareness programs on climate change directed at the Delhi schools. Indeed, we have to generate new ideations and concepts on climate change. It is very thoughtful that the organizers have created an online platform namely GreenSpaces Ideas to spread the message of climate change and water conservation across the layers of the society.

As the National President of IACC and also on my own, I am extremely happy to get associated with this noble endeavor and wish it all success.

Adi Godrej
Chairman, The Godrej Group

“I am delighted to hear that ‘The Climate Project India’ is launching a programme for awareness of climate change for school children.  The earlier we get our children to appreciate the great advantages of a green platform for India’s growth, the better it will be.  Appreciation of the issues will not only lead to a much better environment but will lead to strong competitiveness in terms of energy consumption and costs in the country”.

Anuj Puri
Chairman & Country Head, Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj

“I commend this initiative to help our children understand the problems brought about by climate change, the need to conserve our energy resources and the importance of thinking innovatively in this respect.

The children of today will be the decision and policy-makers of tomorrow. By helping them understand the gravity of the situation we face today in terms of energy wastage and reckless depletion of our resources, you are laying the groundwork for a cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow. As a real estate professional, it is my hope that many of the current generation of children will take up the cause of more responsible urban planning in the coming years. It is a fundamental fact that inefficient land use development practices have contributed staggeringly to the energy overheads involved in real estate developments, public utility services and transportation.

Today, we only talk in vaguest terms about concepts such as smarter land use planning, alternative energy sources and green practices. However, today’s children will be able to make more compact community development, mixed land uses, green space conservation and the enormous energy saving implied therein a reality. Once again, I wholeheartedly endorse this initiative to raise their awareness levels, and to encourage them to think seriously about energy conservation. By stimulating their minds in smaller ways today, you are helping groom a generation of forward-thinking adults for the future. It is such efforts that will help shape a better tomorrow”.

President, Total CVM and Inter-Link

“Earth Day and making the Earth a better place to live requires the awareness of the people of the Earth. Leading this awareness and proactively working towards improving our world requires leaders like Kamal Meattle. We all support the Earth Day effort and have to do our bit for the Earth. We should ask:  What will you do today? What will I do today for the effort? and work towards reducing the environmental burden we put on the Earth.
